Ozymandias

      I met a traveler from an antique land Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal these words appear: “My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!” Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.

      Today's Best Cartoon

       Congress, both House and Senate, continue to solve America's near-bankruptcy by continuing to whip dead horses in order to seem constructive and protect their cush jobs.  The Senate is scheduled to vote on a "gay marriage" proposal, while the House wants to force consumers to buy pricey and mercury-laden Compact Fluorescent Lights rather than the tried-and-true and safe Incandescents.
      Say, you don't suppose there's anything in that proposal that would benefit the manufacturers and marketers of CFLs, do you?  Ask Jeff Immelt of General Electric, or Phillips Electrical CEO Frans van Houten if they may need to import a few million Chinese-made CFLs in order to meet the demand?  Probably just a nasty rumor, right?
      So, America, "Suck It Up" and "Eat Your Peas" as the "professional politicians" improve your world for you, whether or not you agree.
      Or, in 2012, you could throw the bums out, from 1600 Pennsylvania all the way down.

      Et Tu, Brute?

      Oregon Congressman Kurt Schrader, who represents the Democrats in his district, posted the following on his Facebook page:

      "Have you joined the fight to stop special interest dominance of our elections yet? We're off to a great start with nearly 500 sign ups, but we need your help to build this movement. So sign the petition if you haven't yet, post this link to your Facebook profile and let's work together to build the momentum to bring fairness back to our elections."
      As we all know, "fairness in our elections" is Demspeak for "Our poll numbers are tanking due to our wastrel spending and onerous taxations; let's find a straw man to blame asap so we can stay afloat."   As I peruse a list of HIS top campaign donors, I see a pattern:

      AmeriPAC: The Fund for a Greater America
      $25,000*

      National Electrical Contractors Assn

      $25,000

      American Fedn of St/Cnty/Munic Employees

      $22,500

      Teamsters Union

      $22,500

      National Education Assn

      $21,500

      Intl Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

      $20,000

      American Federation of Teachers

      $20,000

      PAC to the Future  (see: Nancy Pelosi)

      $20,000

      Service Employees International Union

      $20,000

      National Rural Electric Cooperative Assn
      $19,000

      Human Rights Campaign
      $18,776

      Ironworkers Union
      $17,500

      Nope, didn't see any "special interest" money there, no siree, not one dime.  Now go away.

      This One May Get Me Killed

      7 p.m. Saturday, July 16th 2011, I took the following photo with my cell phone camera.  The parking lot where this vehicle was parked was a Safeway store on SW Barbur Blvd. in PDX.  You will see the handicap parking logo painted beneath the vehicle, but will need an enlargement to see the handicap parking permit hanging  from the rearview mirror.
      What sort of handicapped person uses an off-road setup pickup truck.  The assistance step beneath the driver's door is about sixteen inches above the pavement.

      801.387 “Person with a Disability” means:
      1. A person who has severely limited mobility because of paralysis or the loss of use of some or all of the person’s legs or arms;
      2. A person who is affected by loss of vision or substantial loss of visual acuity or visual field beyond correction; or
      3. A person who has any other disability that prevents the person from walking without the use of an assistive device or that causes the person to be unable to walk more than 200 feet, including but not necessarily limited to:
        1. Chronic heart condition;
        2. Emphysema;
        3. Arthritis;
        4. Rheumatism; or
        5. Ulcerative colitis or related chronic bowel disorder. [Formerly 801.235]

      Since the driver was about 40 years old, 6'3," and wearing a Harley Davidson shirt, and his accompanying female looked like she could kick my rear without any help, I wisely did not ask any potentially lethal questions, nor did I record the permit number.  But the license plate should be enough to find the truck's owner.  Take a bodyguard.

      To All the "Little People" Out There

      July 11, 2011
      "Well, let me distinguish between professional politicians and the public at large.  The public is not paying close attention to the ins and outs of how a Treasury option goes. They shouldn't." --President Obama

      So much for "taxation without representation."

      Orwellian "Doublespeak" at its Finest

      "I’m absolutely convinced, and the vast majority of economists are convinced, that the steps we took in the Recovery Act saved millions of people their jobs or created a whole bunch of jobs,” Obama said.
      Yes, yes.  Don't look at the 9.2% unemployment rate, don't look at the 14 million jobs which have vanished since the January, 2009 inauguration, according to the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.  It's all recovery based on the "stimulus."

      Somebody please tell me, is he still high on cocaine or pot, or is it just the LSD talking?

      "Mr. President, Is what you just said really true?"
      "Well, maybe just this much is."
