CITIZENSHIP
My grandmother Consuelo must be spinning in her grave:
Her father brought his family from Mexico to San Francisco legally. He insisted that the whole family speak English, and that the children learned to read and write in English. He brought no Mexican flags, never participated in any Cinco de Mayo activities, and was extremely happy to be considered an American, not a "Mexican-American."
My grandfather's grandfather came to America legally from France, via Canada, with his "Native American" bride. Both struggled to speak English, and both insisted that their children learn the language of the land. Again, no French flags, no Canadian flags: they were Americans! Unhyphenated, legal, and damn proud.
Today, your "Representative" in D.C. is pondering immigration "reform," a bill to "fundamentally transform America." Hmmm...where have I heard that line before? Some provisions in this "reform" are:
1. Legalization of all current illegal aliens within 24 hours, whether or not a background check
is completed. Al Qaeda operatives like this provision. They like it A LOT!
2. Taxpayers pick up ALL the legal bills for illegals' lawyers. You get to "spread the wealth" even
more! What's not to love about that?
3. Gang members are included in this amnesty upon the recantation of their gang affiliation.
We can trust them to tell the truth, right?
4. Absconders, those naughties who evade deportation orders, are given full amnesty.
Auntie Zetunia must be breathing easier at that. After all, she was orderdered to be deported
years ago, yet still enjoys public (that is, taxpayer-paid) housing and medical and food stamps.
Say, do you think President O'Bama has a conflict-of-interest here? Nahhh!
5. No payment of back taxes for illegal workers. Whew! Hate to have to pungle up pesos, eh?
6 Earned-income tax REFUNDS will be paid to illegal workers. Bueno!! Obama money!!
7. In-state tuition rights for the illegals AND the offspring of illegals, but not for our military
service personnel nor their children. How's about that, Chump?
8. Speaking/reading English not required until the ninth year of "citizenship." What a relief!!
Now we can all keep pressing "one for English" when we call our Congressman!
9. DIMINISHED border security!!! How could we possibly have LESS border security than
we have now? Here, Tuco, take my keys. No, really, I insist!
If all or any of these provisions in this "reform" sound good to you, be sure to tell your Congressman what a great job he or she (or in Barney Frank's case...ummm....) is doing for you. Or perhaps you would rather tell him/her/it something different next November 2.
